Edward G von Seggern was born in Hugo, Colorado on May 26, 1927. His twelve years of schooling were at Hugo where his last name was changed to VonSeggern with no space. He was held back a year because of stricken with Rheumatic Fever. In 2016 had heart valve surgery. He attended North Texas Agricultural College at Arlington, Texas.

Ed became well acquainted with the Southwest working with oil prospecting companies in Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, and Wyoming. He was employed by the Soil Conservation Service, USDA in Billings, Montana in 1957, then moved to Columbus, MT in 1962 where he worked until he retired.

On June 8, 1957, Ed married Kathleen Laura Harkins in Worland, Wyoming. Kathleen was the daughter of the Hon. Donald J Harkins and Laura Bragg Harkins of Worland.

Two sons were born to Ed and Kathy: Paul and Mark, both born in Columbus, MT

Ed and Kathy moved to Billings in 2014. He passed away from a short illness of lung cancer Nov 21, 2018. Kathy entered Aspen Meadows Nursing home September 2018 in Billings due to dementia.

Ed's cremation ashes were interred at Mark's grave. Kathy's will be also, at which point a memorial marker will be installed.
