Horace Adolphus "Smitty" Smithwick was born in Wilson County, Tennessee in 1888, the seventh of ten children born to Thomas M Smithwick and Jemima J Foster. He was the last child born in Tennessee, and in about 1890, the family moved to Dallas County, Texas. Smitty was married October 4, 1908 to Augusta " Gussie" M Stultz, daughter of George Stultz and Mary Jane Garrison. They were the parents of three sons, Clarence, Ripley, and Robert. Smitty lost his beloved Gussie in 1939 and ten years later on November 29, 1949, married Ruth Estelle Wisdom. Horace passed from this world May 15, 1952 and was laid to rest in Pleasant Valley Cemetery beside Gussie.
