Betty Joyce Maassen
February 2, 1932 - October 25, 2019

Betty Joyce Maassen was born on February 2, 1932 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Albert and Hilda (Dau) Krohn. Her family moved to Hancock, Iowa while she was younger and she graduated from Hancock High School in 1949. In 1952, Betty graduated from Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing. On June 6, 1954 Betty was united in marriage to Willis Maassen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca where Betty was baptized and confirmed. To this union, four sons were born; Jeff, Bruce, Roger, and Richard.

Betty worked at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan for many years as well as Creighton University Medical Center in Nebraska. She was a Registered Nurse for 48 years before she retied in 2000. She delivered many babies when she was an OB-Nurse. This helped get her son, Jeff, out of a speeding ticket one time. Betty enjoyed sewing and crocheting, flowers, and she loved shopping. To her family, she was a little excessive with the shopping, but that’s what she loved to do. She also loved to watch the kids play sports and watch football on TV. Betty was an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan.
