JOSEPH F. ALLEN
(1931-2019)

Mr. Joseph F. Allen, Age 88, of Vanceburg, Ky., passed away Wednesday October 16th, 2019 at the Vanceburg Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Joe, as he was known by was born in Gary, West Virginia June 22nd, 1931 to the late Lester Brice and Blanche Roark Allen. Joe was a member of the Vanceburg Lions Club. He also was an educator for the Garrison elementary school for five years, and worked for the Northeast Development Council in Olive Hill, Ky. Joe was a Master Mason and member of the Stone City Lodge # 963 Free & Accepted Masons Garrison, Ky.

Earlier in life he loved to travel as well as going camping and fishing. Joe was a Korean veteran in the U.S. Navy in which he so proudly served on the aircraft carrier the USS Essex. Was a member of the Quincy Church of Christ.

Left behind to cherish his memory are two sons, J.B. (Debbie) Allen of Hurricane, West Virginia; and Brian F. Allen of Vanceburg, Ky.; one sister. Mary Lou Reed of Gary, West Virginia; and one brother Dewey (Kay) Allen of Hickory, North Carolina.

Preceded in death was his wife of 59 years Lillian Mae Burriss Allen who passed away December 8th, 2016, one brother, Lester Bryce Allen Jr.

Funeral services for Joe Allen will be Sunday October 20, 2019 @ 12:30 pm at the Gaydos Funeral Home 159 2nd street Vanceburg, Ky. 41179 with Brother Danny Bentley officiating. Entombment will follow at Lewis County Memory Gardens Black Oak, Ky.

Friends may call Saturday from 6-8 pm October 19th and from 9:00 am until time of services Sunday at the funeral home. Masonic rites will be given at 7:30 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Military graveside rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Post 5438 Monte Lewis Stamm Vanceburg, Ky. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to the Maysville Hospice of Hope, or a charity of your choice in Joe’s name. Pallbearers will be Randy Foreman, Steve Ervin, & Gary Ervin and other family members. Condolences may be left at www.gaydosfh.com
