Albert Siebels Sr. age 92, of Monticello, died Thursday morning, January 17, 2008 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 Saturday morning, January 19, 2008 at the United Church of Monticello. Rev. Edwin Moreano will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 3 until 7 Friday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Camp Courageous or the United Church of Monticello.

Surviving is his wife Betty, 4 children, Patricia (Jim) Zimmerman, Albert (Jack)(Barb) Siebels Jr., all of Monticello, Donna (Larry) McDonald, Menominee, Wisconsin, Jim (Deb) Siebels, Central City, 10 Grandchildren, 16 great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, a daughter-in-law, Sue Siebels, 2 sisters and a brother.

Albert John Siebels was born December 27, 1915 at Hopkinton, Iowa. He was the son of Carl Wilhelm and Ina Woodruff, Siebels. Albert attended Castle Grove Township School #3.

He was part of the Civilian Conservation Corps building a dam at Centerville, and drainage ditches near Clarion. He later worked as a farm hand and at Franklin Manufacturing.

Albert Siebels and Betty Otten were married January 12, 1942 at St. Lukes Methodist Church, Monticello.

In 1956 Albert became the custodian at Carpenter School.

He retired after 22 years in 1978 and the couple moved to their home on Leisure Lake near Bernard. In 1990 they returned to Monticello.

Albert is best known as the Skate Man. He and Betty met while roller skating. He built the Skate Way Roller Rink in 1968. He later sold it to Joe Koob but continued to work there until the rink closed and then he helped at skate nights at the Berndes Center. He skated the entire parade route during the Sesquicentennial Parade. He was also an avid Ice Skater as well. For many years he coordinated the activities at the city ice rink.
When he wasnt skating he loved to fish and do wood working. He was also a Jeff Gordon Fan.
