Herman Klass, age 99, of Worthington, passed away peacefully at 2:45 P.M. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Owen Valley Health Campus in Spencer. He was born in Coal City on February 25, 1917, the son of John & Susie (Leohr) Klass.
Herman was a graduate of 1936 of Jasonville High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He worked many years as a truck driver, driving his own trucks and for Peabody Coal Company, Jasonville Shops.
Herman was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion, and a lifetime member of the VFW, all in Worthington. He served on the Worthington Town Board for four years, and then as Jefferson Township Trustee for twenty years.
He is survived by his Wife, Gloria (McKee) Klass of Worthington, two Sons, Norman (Patty) Klass of Clay City and Todd (Tammy Ninesling-fiance) Klass of Brazil, two Step-Daughters, Tanja Fulk of Indianapolis and Kim (Rich) Rogers of Worthington, two Grandchildren, Rhonda (Clay) Temple of Coal City and Stacia (Nate) Myers of Ellettsville, four Great-Grandchildren, Amber Temple of Greenville, South Carolina, Kara (Tommy) Toothman of Greenville, South Carolina, Cooper Myers of Ellettsville, and Evie Myers of Ellettsville, and two Great-Great-Grandchildren, Kade Toothman and Raina Temple.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a Grandson, Michael Klass.
Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington at 11:00 am on Friday, December 9, 2016, with Matt Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Worthington Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, and Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Worthington Park Board through the funeral home.
