Frederick Alfred Harris, a brief notice of whose death appeared in yesterday morning's TRIBUNE, was born in Cumberland county (sic), Pa., May 3, 1843, being aged at death 60 years and 1 month. His years to early manhood were spent in his native county. He removed from Carlisle to Altoona where he was in the employ of the Pennsylvania railroad for some years. About 1877 he came to Tyrone and for some time was engaged at the store house at the shops of the Tyrono division. In 1879 he was appointed baggage master at Tyrone station, which position he faithfully and creditably filled until death, Mr. Harris was twice married. His second wife and these children are left to mourn the loss of a loving and devoted husband and a kind, affectionate and indulgent father; Anna Mary, Catharine, John T., Gertrude F., Emma H. and Clifford M. His mother, Mrs. Ella N. Harris, of Carlisle, now 83 years old, also survives the deceased. Mr. Harris was a charter member of Tyrone castle No. 79, Knights of Golden Eagle, and was prominent in the order, both state and national. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Relief department and took a notable part in its organization. Mr. Harris, during his residence in Tyrone, did much writing as correspondent for newspapers at Pittsburg, Harrisburg, Altoona, Williamsport and other places. He was a versatile and at times a very caustic writer. He also gave some attention to platform speaking. He was a man firm in his convictions, honest in his attentions, affable in manner, steadfast in his friendship, a good neighbor and an excellent citizen. In deference to the request of Mr. Harris while in life the funeral services will be private. Rev. F. L. Bergstresser will officiate at the late home of the deceased this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will follow in Grandview cemetery (sic).
