Daniel Heckman died at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon at his home at the Bend of penumonia. He contracted a cold about two weeks ago which developed into the pnuemonia. Deceased was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, April 10, 1843. On the breaking out of the Civil war he enlisted into the United States army and was mustered into the service at Harrisburg, Pa., Aug 25, 1862, as a private in Company F, under Captain F. A. Edmunds. He was wounded at Fredericksburg, Va., Dec. 13, 1862, a gun shot passing through his left lung. He was taken to the Finley hospital in Washington, D. C., and while there received his discharge from the army. Mr. Heckman was married to Mary E. Kelly, Oct. 27, 1863. By this union eight children . . . were born; two died in infancy. Those surviving are: Mesdames Joseph Reitz and E. L. Ayres of California, and E. E. Lahman of Colorado; Alexander Heckman of Iowa, Harry of Dixon and Miss Luin at home. He is also survived by his aged mother of Dixon. The funeral was held this morning at 9:45 o'clock from his late home and the Rev. W. L. Rutherford officiating. The pall bearers were picked from the members of Dixon post G. A. R. ("War Veteran Passes Away," Sterling Standard, Mar. 11, 1904)
