Maud Isabel Reynolds was born 2 March 1905 in Washington County, VA to Franklin Pierce Reynolds and Ida Hester Hayter.

She married Coy G Coulson on 26 Oct 1929 in Sullivan County, TN. They lived in Baltimore Maryland for several years in the early 1930s then returned to Bristol, TN where Maude lived the remainder of her life. They had two children: a daughter, Jacqueline Hayter Coulter, and a son, Eric Franklin Coulter. They eventually divorced.

On 22 Dec 1956, she married for a second time. She married James David Akard, who was the widower of her sister Lucy Edith Reynolds. They were married until his death in 1976.

She was a member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church. She served as secretary to the executive secretary of the Greater Bristol Chamber of Commerce for more than 27 years. She was also employed by the Bristol Tennessee Electric Service Board for 12 years. She was a member of the Business and Professional Womens Club of Bristol, the Wesleyan Service Guild of the church, and the Mountain Vale Garden Club.

She died at 12:45 pm on Sunday 6 Jan 1980 at Bristol Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Her funeral was held in the chapel of Akard Funeral Home at 11:00 am on 8 Jan 1980 with Rev. Gary Grogg presiding. Pallbearers were Bill Christian, Jerry O'Neal, Hayter Reynolds, Lyman Reynolds, Warren Reynolds, and Billy Wayne Akard.

Her name as given at birth was Maud without an 'E' on the end, but at some point in her adult life she apparently grew tired of correcting it being misspelled and adopted the more common spelling of Maude.
