Analysis-STEVENS,JohnD.-Origins&Ancestry, p. 33- "Since the only MontgomeryCo records for Isaac Bates are his land and tax records, such evidence as there is of a possible "allied family" connection to one or more of the STEVENS families of MontgomeryCo, is predicated on the circumstantial evidence of their geographic proximity, as derived from these records. Exactly one of these documents, though, does provide a specific link between Isaac Bates and one of the MontgomeryCo STEVENSes: Isaac Bates acquired his initial MontgomeryCo land no later than 23Oct1792 by way of a treasury land warrant assigned to him by Isaiah. Before removing from Franklin to MontgomeryCo about 1789, Isaac briefly (from 1788-1789) owned two tracts of land in Franklin, one of 126a and the other of 135a. I've represented these tracts on the map only notionally, with a square plot located only approximately in the vicinity where this land lay."

"The first land record for Isaac BATES in MontgomeryCo was the brief 23Oct1792 record just referred to (acquired from Isaiah Stephens) of his "entering" (taking possession of) 50a of land on the waters of Little River, i.e. along one of it's many tributaries. Little River winds extensively southeastward from the town of Radford, and constitutes much of the southeastern border between (now) MontgomeryCo and FloydCo that was carved out of the former's southeastern part in 1831. Leaving this border, Little River then continues eastward all the way to the western slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains that divide now FloydCo (then Montgomery) from FranklinCo to the east."
