HARWICHPORT - Jean O'Leary Dunne, born in Worcester, MA and a resident of Harwichport, MA for the past 36 years, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017. Jean was predeceased by Richard E. Dunne Jr., her husband of 59 years. They met at the Belmont Hotel in West Harwich when Jean was 14 and both their families were vacationing. Dick joined the Navy and served aboard the cruiser Savannah during World War II. Upon his return and graduation from Harvard, they were married at her parents' home in Worcester, MA.

Jean's sister Ann married Dick's best friend and college roommate, Burke Shay. The sisters were inseparable, spoke every day, and built a close extended family. Jean graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart in Norton Heights CT and from Rosemont College in Bryn Mawr, PA. Her father, Edward J. O Leary ("Ted), formerly President of Somerset Importers and later Chairman of Schenley Imports, and mother Alice (Heffern), moved to their summer house in Bass River in the early 1940's. Dick and Jean settled in Hartford, CT, Dick's hometown, where they raised their four children.

Upon Dick's retirement from Alexander & Alexander in 1981, they moved full time to their summer home in Harwichport, MA. Together they enjoyed life on the Cape with family and friends and many rounds of golf at the Oyster Harbors Club.

Jean's greatest interest was spending time with her immediate and extended family. She was loving, supportive, resilient in adversity, and always put others before herself.

Jean was predeceased by her siblings Edward O'Leary of Bass River MA, Richard O'Leary of Bedford NY, Ann Shay of Bass River MA, and William O'Leary of Brookline MA. She is survived by her children Tony Dunne of North Salem, NY, Mark and daughter-in-law Lisa Dunne of Cohasset, MA, and daughter Pamela and son-in-law Frank Boyle of Harwich, MA. Her eldest son, Richard E. Dunne 3rd, died in an aircraft accident at the Chatham Airport on Thanksgiving Day, 1997. Her grandchildren
Anna, Francis, Adrian, Isabelle Dunne and Grace and Miles Boyle, and many nieces and nephews, survive her.

Calling hours will be held at the Morris, O'Connor & Blute Funeral Home in Harwich Center on Monday, Nov. 20th 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will take place at the Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich at 11:00 AM on Tuesday Nov. 21st, 2017.
