Geneva Orene Autry
1926 - 2017

Geneva Autry went to be with the Lord on December 21, 2017, at the age of 91. She was born in Bokchito, OK on May 23, 1926, to Thomas and Vivian Laura Brown. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, 5 siblings and her husband of 57 years of marriage, Harrel Jack Autry. She is survived by two sons: Harrel Doyce Autry (Betty) of Cottonwood, CA and Carl Gene Autry of Lamont, CA. She is also survived by two foster sons: Thomas Autry (Nathy) of Chesapeake, VA and Billy Autry (Barbara) of Chelsea, MA. She has 5 grandchildren, 4 foster grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
During the early 1940's Geneva and Jack worked for the war effort. Geneva worked as a warplane riveter for North America Aircraft in Englewood, CA. Her husband and she raised two sons and then began caring for foster children in 1965. Over a period of 35 years, they helped and cared for 65 foster children. While living in Tupman, CA, she was active in the local Elk Hills grade school and served on the school board. She attended the Tupman Church of God and was the Secretary/Treasurer of the church.
She moved to Cottonwood, CA in 2002 and faithfully attended the Cottonwood Assembly of God Church. Bible reading, sewing, and quilting were some of her favorite activities. She also had a green thumb when it came to growing plants and roses. The Frontier Senior Center in Anderson, CA was her place for having fun, where she participated in quilting classes, talked with her friends and played games.
Her family would like to thank Oak River Rehab staff for their loving care during her stay in the facility.
There will be a memorial service at Cottonwood Assembly of God Church, 20404 Gas Point Road, Cottonwood, CA 96022 at 11:00 AM, January 20, 2018.
Her final resting place will be beside her husband at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bakersfield, CA. Interment was January 5, 2018 with a 15 minutes graveside.
