Albert Meade, former GOP chairman, dies
Albert Jackson Meade, 93, formerly of Maple Avenue, died Tuesday at Charleston. Health Care Center. Meade had served as chairman of the Boyle County Republican Party in the 1970s. He had been owner of Meade Hardware Store in Harrodsburg. After his retirement from the hardware store, he man aged real estate interests in Danville and Harrodsburg. Meade was a graduate of Ashland High School where he played two years on championship football teams. He was a 1933 graduate of Centre College, and received a master's degree in business administration from the University of Kentucky. He was a former member of the Rotary Club, Oleika Shrine Temple and all Masonic bodies. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Born Aug. 28, 1908, in Magoffin County, he was a son of the late Wannie C. and Mary Alice Wheeler Meade. He was the widower of Lucy Hayward Meade. Survivors include two daughters, Sallie M. Howard of Frankfort and Lucy M. Howe of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, J. Stephen Meade of Danville; two sisters, Chloe M. Baker of Harrodsburg and Nola M. LaMaster of Chillicothe, Ohio; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Albert Meade Jr., and a granddaughter. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home. Memorials may go to Albert and Lucy Meade Scholarship Fund at Centre College and American Children's Home, P.O. Box 1288, Lexington, N.C., 27293-1288.

He died Tuesday at Charleston Health Care Center. Pallbearers will be James and Albert Howard, Lewis Howe, and Jedidiah and Charlie Meade. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Danville Coffee Club. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home.
