HARTS, W.Va. — Finis Adkins spent 90 years on Caney Branch of Harts Creek. Born September 26, 1921, he was the second son of the late Ben and Holeen Conley Adkins.

He was a brother to the late Victor, Freelan, Molly Adams, Zeevie Thompson and Claude. Finis was the husband of the late Nellie Bryant Adkins, who has been waiting for him to join her since August 29, 2002.

He was the father of Ronald (Gaye) Adkins and Kenneth Ray (Darlene) Adkins, both of Harts. He was a grandfather to Crystal (Doug) Bohr of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; Bryan Michael (Angela) Adkins of Harts and Jessica Dee (Rick Short) Adkins of Blair, S.C. He held a great love in his heart for his great-grandchildren, Derrick Alan Elkins, Travis Bohr, Erin Nicole Adkins, Bryan Michael Adkins II, Savannah Bohr and Kilei Anna Maria Short.

Finis worked for a short time in the coal mines and spent the majority of his life as a timberman for Amherst and Island Creek Coal Companies and cut and sold fire wood to people all around Logan and Lincoln Counties. These people were cherished as his friends until his last day. He loved to tell about his trips to deliver the wood to anyone who would listen. He enjoyed raising and trading cattle. He had a great many friends, who traded livestock and who often brightened his day with unexpected visits.

Finis spent his last two years at Trinity Health Care. There he was cherished and loved by all who met him. He always brightened their day with his happy smile and his bright sparkling eyes. Their kindness will never be forgotten by his family.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 10, conducted by Jimmy Carter, with singing by Terry Lucas, at Freeman Funeral Home. Final rites and burial will be conducted at the Reb Adkins Cemetery, Caney Branch of Harts.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Freeman Funeral Home of Chapmanville is in charge of the arrangements.
