Al was born on October 8, 1930 in Sanford one of eight children born to Joseph E. and Marie Anne (Lussier) Richard.
Al married Ruby A. Theriault on October 26, 1957 and they soon began their family; they were blessed with two sons and three daughters. Al was a very hard worker and for most of his life he worked two jobs. He was a well-respected carpenter and also worked for Cyro Industries. Al was a very humble and kind man who put the needs of others before his own. He was very quiet and thoughtful before he shared in conversations with his family and friends. He also possessed a wry sense of humor that could lighten any moment.
Al and Ruby enjoyed going out for an evening of dancing with their friends. They won the "Jitterbug" contest and they both loved Elvis and dancing in the driveway to the char grins of the grandchildren! He was a loyal fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him great joy and happiness.
Al and Ruby would take special trips to the White Mountains through-out their 62 years together. It was where they had celebrated their honeymoon. Al was a proud father, devoted husband and favorite Grandpa/Grandpa Al. He and Ruby brought their children up to become independent adults with a strong work ethic. Through all of his health issues, he never once complained. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Al is lovingly survived his wife, Ruby Richard of Sanford; his children, Barbara Stone and husband Brian of Alfred; Bryan Richard and husband Sam of Dover, NH; Steven Richard and Mary Carroll of Cape Cod, MA; Linda Marocchini and husband Steven of Waterboro; and Lisa Ostrosky and husband Michael of Eliot; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his seven siblings.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Monday, October 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd., in Springvale. A celebration of Al's life will follow at the Sanford Elks Club.
