Wilma Ann Tipton of Vichy, Missouri passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the Maries Manor in Vienna, Missouri at the age of 88. Wilma was born at home in Safe, Missouri on October 17, 1930, to the late William Bola and Galena (Sewell) Welch.

Wilma was born at home, the eighth child of the nine that her parents would have. Safe was a small community ten mile north of St. James, Missouri. There were a few houses, a grocery store, post office, a telephone company, and a dairy, Dr. Underwood was the local country doctor. Wilma remembered meeting a boy at a farm sale when she was ten. Years later, during her freshman years of high school, this same boy looked all grown, and was a junior. His name was Benny Leroy Tipton. They met at the local drug store, Benny sat beside Wilma, and offered to buy her a cherry coke. They soon fell in love and were married on a cold December 4, 1949, in the living room of her parent's home with their best friends by their side. Wilma and Leroy raised three children. Dennis, David, and Cheryl.
After graduation, Wilma worked for three years at the Rice Stix Dress Factory in St. James, Missouri, she would mark for buttons on the dresses, she was able to save $17.00 a week. Wilma learned her cooking skills from her mother and older sisters while living on the family farm, it was something she enjoyed to do. She worked as the head Cook at Harrison Center School in Maries County for five years before going to Rolla, Missouri where she worked as a Dietary Cook for the Diagnostic Clinic for 17 years. She enjoyed canning, and quilting. She made everyone of her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren a quilt, along with quilts she made to donate for the raffle at the Vichy Fire Department. She loved Angel Food Cake, and the colors yellow, and pink.
Wilma and Leroy were faithful members of the Broadway Baptist Church, nine miles north of St. James, where Leroy served as a deacon. Wilma was also very involved with the Church Activity Committee, and the Community Quilting Club. Her motto was "Do unto others as you would like done to you." Her advice to pass along was to "Be happy and enjoy life, don't take life to serious. Enjoy friendships and family. Stay honest and always have a goal to work toward." Wilma valued the love of her family, friends, and her church.
