Bill Junior Sheppard, age 81, of Council, Virginia, went to be with the Lord Friday, September 27, 2019, in the Abingdon Health and Rehab. Born in Drill, Virginia, he was a son of the late Alex McKinley and Lola Mae Baldwin Sheppard. He attended Boyd & Ratliff Freewill Baptist Church and was a member of Drill Senior Citizens. He was a disabled Coal Miner and proud member of the UMWA, but most of all he was a Christian man and loving husband, father and father-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, America Cathern Harris Sheppard, two brothers, Carl Sheppard and Ralph Sheppard, two sisters-in-law, Martha and Virginia. His brother, James Sheppard, passed away only hours later on the same day.
Survivors include two daughters, Alice Sheppard and Barbara Sheppard Matney and husband, Gregory; three brothers, Needem Sheppard and wife, Peggy, Otis Sheppard and wife, Wyona, and Earnest Sheppard; one sister, Mildred Honaker; one sister-in-law, Geneva Sheppard; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jennifer Jonkers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Avery Barton officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia beside his loving wife whom he longed to join in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UMWA Sub-District #28 Chaplin Corp, P.O. Box 28, Castlewood, VA 24224.
Pallbearers will be Carson Austin, Keshia Austin, Jonas Bostic, Doug Sheppard, Harold Dean Thomas, Frank Dye, Tim Harris and Cecil Dye.
Honorary pallbearers will be Howard and Aleta Rasnake, Don and Betty Hess, Greg and Kathy Noe, Dean and Beth Colley, Chester and Becky Ball, Bruce and Barbara Baldwin, members of Boyd-Ratliff Freewill Baptist Church and members of Drill Senior Citizens.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 5:00 PM Sunday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM with Rev. Wayne Baldwin officiating.
