He was a Green Beret with expertise in demolitions and was a HALO (High Altitude, Low Opening) parachuting instructor.
He was born in Houston on January 7, 1943 but spent most of his childhood in Mexico. After his time in Special Forces, he received a degree in Civil Engineering from University of South Florida and spent his career overseeing the construction of clean rooms, refineries, and prisons.
His most important job was the one he took on in recent years, as a the family chauffeur to his six grandchildren, the children of his daughter, Jennifer. As they drove around the city together, he'd regale them with fascinating and funny stories from his life. He carried his camera everywhere, and at the end of each day he'd send out an email with the best shots, as well as a writeup of cute things the kids did and said. He often traveled with Jennifer and her family, joining them in excursions to Niagara Falls, New York City, London, Rome, and other places.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Donnell Bishop Sr. and Margaret Salyer Bishop.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Bishop Fulwiler; her husband, Joe Fulwiler; and his grandchildren, Donnell, Lane, Lucy, Kate, Pammy, and JT.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation and reception for Don on Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the Southwestern Room at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home.
He will be laid to rest following the visitation at 3:00 p.m. at Berry Creek Cemetery in Georgetown.
