Connie Jean Ruby, age 81, of Mystic, Iowa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville.
Connie was born on December 3, 1937 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Ross Benjamin Brown Sr. and Vera Alice (Phillips) Brown. She was united in marriage to Eugene "Gene" William Ruby on October 19, 1952 in Numa, Iowa. To this union, three children were born, Steve, Ronda, and Brenda.
In her younger years, Connie worked at McGraw-Edison in Centerville, and also as a waitress at Dockins in Centerville for a brief period of time. She has been a long-time member of the Dale Church, north of Centerville.
Connie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed going out to eat with Gene, as well as Sunday drives with him. Connie was very fond of road trips to Branson with her siblings and their spouses. She also enjoyed being outdoors and bird watching as much as possible.
Left to cherish Connie's memory are her children, Steve (Nancy) Ruby of Centerville, Ronda Ruby Sturms of Centerville, and Brenda Ruby Sowells of Centerville; five grandchildren, Mitch (Michelle) Cairns, Amy Ruby, Brandon (Jaqui) Sturms, Nicole (Marty) Muir, and Allison (Scott) Hancox; eight great grandchildren, Michalyn Ruby, Brody Sharp, Alyssa Boehning, Jacob Cairns, Gradey Stickler, Max Muir, Sam Muir, and Kaiya Sturms; her siblings, Patty (David) Proffitt, Reta (Don) Havard, and Robert (Marie) Brown; as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Ruby; her parents, Ross and Vera Brown; a son in law, Richard Sowells; her siblings, Ross "Dutch" (Arliss) Brown Jr., Billy Brown, and Luetta "Sis" (John) Peel; and her in laws, Sharlene (Carl) Jones, Harold Ruby, Arthur Ruby, Shirley (Don) Nyquist, and Donnie Ruby.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Gerald Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Numa Cemetery in Numa. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 9:30-11:00AM.
