NEWBURYPORT - A funeral service was held yesterday for Eleanor Little Baker of Newburyport, long active in historical circles here. Mrs. Baker died Wednesday of natural causes at age 96 in Newburyport's Anna Jaques Hospital.
She was the daughter of Henry Bailey Little and Fanny (Gray) Little. Mr. Little was the president of the Institution for Savings in Newburyport, who worked until he was 100 and died at 106 in the 1950s.
At age 83, his daughter published the genealogy of the descendants of William Pierce Johnson of Charlestown. Mrs. Baker was active in the Historical Society of Old Newbury, and was a member of the Anna Jaques Hospital Auxiliary and the Red Cross. In World War I she had worked with the Red Cross in France, where she met her late husband, then Lt. Charles Baker.
A graduate of Smith College in 1907, she was active in the Smith College Club and also did graduate work at Radcliffe. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Republican City Committee of Newburyport and was a director on the boards of the YWCA and the Newburyport Public Library.
She leaves a son, Charles D. 3d of Boston and Rockport; two daughters, Nancy Kobick of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Caroline R. Baker of Swarthmore, Pa.; a sister, Nancy Noyes of Newburyport; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
