Early in childhood, she took out membership in the Christian Church, transferring membership to the United Brethren Church of Ames, when coming here to make her home. She was always active in her church work while health permitted. The last few years of her life were spent in pain and suffering, but she was always patient and cheerful and thinking of others before herself.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, George W., David A. and Ruth, all of Ames, three grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Alfred Peeples of Pomona, CA and Mrs. Willis Ball of Ames and two brothers, Charles Alfred of Ames and William Alfred of Meeker, CO, and many other relatives. She will also be missed by a host of neighbors and friends.
--- A TRIBUTE TO MY SISTER ---
When a little girl with mother
She was rather frail and thin
But was always ready with
Her cheerful word and smile and hands
To help those around her with
What little strength she had.
How nobly she took her place
With sister, brothers, friends,
No stranger came to her door in need
But found a helping hand.
A faithful wife to one she loved most dear
As well as sweetheart, friend and pal.
She stood so firm when danger threatened home
That danger always ended well.
A mother to her boys and girl
As true as mothers are
To guide them in the paths of right,
To bigger, better life.
Her suffering was long and great
How much no one can tell,
How patiently she bore her pain,
The Master knows full well.
She heard the Master's gentle call
Saw wide the portals swing
And in the silent night slipped thru
To hear the angels sing.
Mrs. Lucy Alfred Peeples
