Elisha Hugh Davis, Retired Contractor, Flying Service Head
Elisha Hugh Davis, 60, retired Washington contractor, died yesterday at Montgomery County General Hospital, Sandy Spring, after suffering a stroke.
Mr. Davis had lived on a farm near Laytonsville, Md., since 1936. From 1944 to 1949 he operated the Davis Flying Service with a GI air training school from an airport on his farm.
Mr. Davis was part owner of the Davis & Platt Construction Co.,Inc., 401 Butternut street N.W. While in that business he had many contracts with the Coca-Cola Co. to build plants in various
parts of the country. Mr. Davis retired six years ago from the contracting business.
Mr. Davis was bom in Washington, the son of the late Elisha King Davis, also a contractor, and the Late Mrs. Laura Virginia Grimes Davis. He grew up and was educated in Oxon Hill, Md.
He was a Mason.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Evelyn Coiner Davis; a son, Francis E. Davis, Clarendon, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Emma Rhodes, Arlington; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Fitzgerald, Arlington, and Mrs. Pauline Sullivan, Silver Spring, and two brothers, Milton Davis of Washington and Leonard Davis, Silver Spring.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow at the home. Burial will be in the Laytonsville Methodist Church Cemetery.
