In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 22, 2019, while surrounded by her loved ones, June Miller Atkins, age 96, passed away at her residence in Marion. The daughter of the late Thomas and Hattie Forbes Miller, she was born in the Estatoe Community of Mitchell County, North Carolina on May 21, 1923.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Vernon Atkins; her second husband, Bill Cureton; and one son, Rev. Vernice “Bud” Atkins.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and sister, June loved quilting; but her biggest enjoyment, was making memories and spending quality time with her large and caring family. She was a member of State Street Church of God in Marion.

June is survived by eight children, Violet “Sis” Smith (William), Helen Price (Kenneth), Alice Creech (Harrold), Bobby Atkins (Connie), Nita Ann Smith (Dean), Charles B. Atkins (Sharon), Robin Grindstaff (David) and Vickie Bryant (Greg); and one brother, Tommy Miller (Carolyn). She is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren; forty-five great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Alma Atkins.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Charles E. Atkins and her son, Charles B. Atkins officiating. Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
