Active In Civic, Women's Groups
Mrs. Catherine A. Brown, 78, of 2711 West Central Ave., active in Toledo women's and civic organizations, died Monday in her home.
Mrs. Brown was a 1915 graduate of Vanderbilt University, and a 1918 graduate of the University of Michigan's medical school, although she never practiced medicine.
She was president of the Sorosis Literary Group two years, a member of the Florence Critenton Home board of trustees, and served two years as president of Samagama, an organization of club presidents. She also was a member of the North Toledo Community House board of trustees 15 years, and a member of the board of directors of the Toledo Woman's Club for two years.
She was the wife of Dr. Thomas H. Brown, Sr., a retired Toledo orthopedic surgeon.
Also surviving are her son, Dr. Thomas H., Jr., daughters, Mrs. Catherine Heffron, Mrs. Janet Smith, and Mrs. Anne Mays; sister, Mrs. Jeannette Noel, and brother, Robert Acklen.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Emmert Mortuary. There will be no visiting hours.
The family requests that any tributes be in the form of contributions to the Toledo Society for the Blind or to the charity of the donor's choice.
