James Henry Ford was born to William Daniel and Amy Jane Collins Ford. James was the oldest of sixteen children. His siblings were John Wesley, William Robert, Charles "Charlie" Franklin, Amanda Jane, Richard Joseph, Dolly, Elizabeth, Martha, Thomas, Nancy, George A, Rachel, Julia, Lillia, and Mollie Ford.

James was married four times, three of whom passed away. In 1862, James married Elizabeth R. Martin in Hamilton, Tennessee. In 1862, James married Amanda Elizabeth Nelson. In 1877, James married Sarah Isabell Johnson and in 1915, James married Lucinda J in Independence, Arkansas.

May, 1865 he served in the Confederate Army, Company B, 1st East Tennesse, Carter Cleveland Regiment of the Cavalry. His application for Pension indicates that he was shot in his left forearm. In 1912, Arkansas, he applied for Arkansas, Confederate Pension.

At the age of 88, James Henry Ford passed away.
