In 1945, Gloria married her high school sweetheart, Lt. Robert E. Archer, Jr. Following the conclusion of WWII, they returned to Memphis to raise their family. In addition to raising her children, Gloria held several positions including at the American Finishing Company, Leader Federal Bank and finally at Memphis City Schools.
She was a lifelong Methodist and spent much of her life as a member of Parkway Methodist, then merged Bethany-Parkway, and for the last 37 years as a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She participated in various church activities including Disciples and enjoyed being a part of Cornerstones.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy K. Lawhorn, Sr. and Aubrey Scott Lawhorn, and her brothers, Leroy K. Lawhorn, Jr. and George Lawhorn. Gloria is survived by her daughter, Sandra A. Martin, and her son, Bob Archer (Ruth), her sister in law, Loraine Lawhorn, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church on Friday, March 17, 2017 with visitation from 12:00-1:00pm and the funeral immediately following. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in Midtown.
