George Hoag Sholes, 92, of Beloit, Wisconsin, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. George was born on September 14, 1927 in Milton Junction, Wisconsin, the son of Elijah Cole and Laura Ellen (Hoage) Sholes. He graduated in 1946 from Orfordville High School in Orfordville, Wisconsin and moved to Beloit, Wisconsin in 1947. George married Phyllis Burge at St. Jude Catholic Church in Beloit on September 1, 1951. She preceded him in death on December 28, 1993. He married Virginia Schroder at The Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton, Illinois on September 20, 1970 in Rockton, Illinois. Virginia preceded him in death on August 27, 1986.
George was employed for over 30 years as a driver and a drying machine operator for Meadow-Gold Dairy in Beloit, later known as Wright-Wagner Dairy and was lastly owned by Beatrice Foods. He also drove a bus part-time for a few years for the School District of Beloit. After retiring George and his long-time companion, Fran Lamb enjoyed driving their motorhome to visit family and friends who lived in Florida, Texas, and Northern Wisconsin. He also enjoyed golfing in his younger days, and working in his vegetable garden. George was a long-time member of the Beloit Moose Lodge #191 and the Eagles Club #557 in Beloit, where he played billiards in several state tournaments.

George is survived by his son; daughter; stepdaughters; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; cousin. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; sister, Martha Cook; brother, Kenneth Sholes; and step-son, Larry Schroder.

Memorial services are 12:00 p.m., Friday, October 11, 2019 at Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home, 424 Prospect Street, Beloit, Wisconsin 53511 with Chaplain Mark Maxted of Beloit Regional Hospice officiating. Visitation is prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Following the service interment of cremains will take place at Eastlawn Cemetery in Beloit, Wisconsin.
