MISHAWAKA – Weir Allen Rummel, 89, residing in Mishawaka, Indiana passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019 at BellTower Health and Rehabilitation Center, Granger. Weir was born on December 26, 1929 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Washington Arthur Rummel and Viola Marie (Pofhal) Rummel, and has been a lifelong resident of this area.

Weir graduated from Central high School in 1948, he then went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Indiana University of South Bend. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War Conflict, serving aboard the USS Taconic Adirondack Class Amphibious Force Command Ship. Following four years of active duty, he continued to serve in the Unites States Navy Reserves for twenty-six years. On October 23, 1950 in South Bend, he married Mary Josephine Konrad, who survives.

Weir worked as a Plant Engineer at Torrington Company for sixteen years. He also worked at Whirlpool, Wheelabrator for ten years, and Uniroyal. He was a member of the St. Joseph Lodge #45 F&AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Avalon Grotto, and the Elks #235, and the Reserve Officer Association. He attended Twin City Baptist Church, Mishawaka.

He is also survived by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Mary Josephine Rummel of Mishawaka; daughter, Linda Jo Meyer of Mishawaka; and two grand-daughters, Jennifer Michelle Manly and Sarah Christine Schiff; as well as five great-grandchildren, Cohen Schiff, Sawyer Schiff, Dowson Schiff, Aiden Manly and Addison Manly. Weir was preceded in death by his daughter, Marya Lynn Rummel; sister, Joann Eva Bachman; and his brother, Arthur Lee Rummel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615, with Pastor Jerry Bell officiating. Graveside Services and Military Honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2019 at the funeral home and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday.
