James was born in Wayne County on April 7, 1931 to the late Walter and Nettie Capps Futrelle. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. James retired from Cherry Hospital and later went to work with the recycling center in Lenoir County for many years.
James is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Croom Futrelle; son, Jonathan Futrelle of Goldsboro; grandson, Landon Futrelle; son, Kenny Futrelle and his family from Georgia; and sister, Marie Turner and husband Gene of Goldsboro.
Interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston, NC.
