Lawrence Powers, 80, of Orleans, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at his home under the loving care of his family and hospice. Lawrence was born Jan. 18, 1929, in Phoenix, Ariz., the son of Lawrence and Helen Baugher Powers.
In earlier years, he proudly served in the United States Army. Lawrence retired in 1991 from Extruded Metals after many years of service. He enjoyed fishing,collecting coins and knick-knacks. He attended Shiloh Community Church.
Lawrence was married on June 26, 1950, in Ionia, to Ethel Mae Robinson, and she survives along with their children, Larry and Ginger Powers of Ionia, Rita Mathews of North Carolina, Traci and Tom Workman of Orleans, Tina and ThorThorbjornsen of Escanaba and Charles and Mary Powers of Belding; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Helen Johnston of Blanchard, Hilda and Tony Spelgati of Arizona, Susan and Herb Williams of Arizona, Jack and Deanna Powers of Ionia, James Powers of Ionia and Ernie and Carol Powers of Missouri. He was preceded by his parents; one sister, Betty Lehman; and two grandsons, Michael Powers and Justin Mathews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Private interment will be in Orleans Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorials may be given to Shiloh Community Church or Great Lakes Hospice.
