Waybern Scalf, 85, of Evansville (formerly of Crawfordsville, Ind.), died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at Deaconess Hospital and went home to be with her Lord and Savior.
Waybern was born Sept. 20, 1921, in Morresburg, Tenn., the daughter of the late Milem and Ruth Clonce. She was a Sales Lady at G.C. Murphy Company in Crawfordsville, Ind. She retired in 1981 after 25 years of service. She was a member of Pleasantview Baptist Church in Crawfordsville, Ind. Waybern volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Clarion/Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

Waybern was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bob, Wiley, and Clifford Clonce; and husband, Clyde Scalf.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Terry Brune, of Evansville, Ind.; a son, Sam Russell, of Indianapolis, Ind.; two stepsons, Steven Scalf, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Sam Scalf and his wife, Katie, of Taylors, S.C.; a brother, James Andrew Clonce, of Indianapolis, Ind.; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Kimberly Pruett, of Valparaiso, Ind., Sam Russell, of San Francisco, Calif., Doug Russell, of Ludlow, Ky.; step-grandsons, Jayson Scalf, of Atlanta, Ga., Justin Scalf, of Taylors, S.C. and Jeremy and Josh Brune, of Evansville; and great-grandchildren, Allie Russell and Lilly and Maggie Pruett.

Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Browning Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Stratton officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville, Ind., at 1 p.m. on Dec. 13, 2006.

The family extends a special thanks to the Heritage Center for all the tender loving care and kindness they gave to Waybern. Memorial contributions may be made to Deaconess/Ohio Valley Hospice or to the Heritage Center.
