SOUTH BETHLEHEM Richard Ehle Keel entered eternal rest on February 15, 2016. Born in Albany in 1940, he was the son of the late Robert Ehle Keel and Mabel (Warne) Keel. Richard attended Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School. He served four years in the United States Marine Corps., receiving an honorable discharge. While continuing to pursue his education, he worked at Niagara Mohawk, the Cathedral of All Saints and Stalker's Dairy. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Russell Sage College Evening Division and taught social studies in the middle school at R-C-S, retiring in 1995. Richard enjoyed building stone walls and had a passion for maintaining his 21 acre tree farm. He was an avid reader, John Deere and car enthusiast. Richard is survived by his best friend and wife of 53 years Susan (Stalker); sons, Stephen (Patricia), Michael (Christine) and David (Celeste); five grandchildren, Caitlyn, Michael, Jesse Marie, Jamie and Jacob; nephews, E. Daniel and William Wakeman; nieces, Stacey Adams and Hillary Keel; sister-in-law, Patricia (Klahr) Keel; brother-in-law, John Geurtze; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Reverend Robert D. Keel in January 2015, and his sister Kay Keel Geurtze in September 2015 as well as a nephew Robert Keel. Per Richard's request, there will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of All Saints, 62 South Swan St., Albany on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 11 a.m. Interment will be held in the spring at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in South Bethlehem. In lieu of flowers the family would like you to consider a donation in memory of Richard to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Upstate NY/Vermont Chapter, 5 Computer Dr. West Suite 100, Albany, NY 12205 or Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
