Doris (Naugle) Gordon, 92, of Benton Township, died early Friday morning, Sept. 6, 2019, at the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital Emergency Room, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born Dec. 5, 1926, in Pikes Creek, Luzerne County, she was a daughter of the late William and Mildred (Sayre) Naugle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Walter R. Gordon Sr., on April 7, 2002.

She was a 1944 graduate of Lehman High School. She assisted her husband with the operation of the family farm and also served as the Benton Township Clerk and Tax Collector for many years.

Mrs. Gordon was a longtime and active member of Jackson Baptist Church in Derrs, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and served as a Sunday School teacher and pianist.

In her younger years, she was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was known for her sewing, cooking, baking and canning. She also enjoyed attending sporting events that her family was involved in.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her children: Walter R. Gordon Jr. and his wife, Deb; Cathy J. Gordon; Becky Fritz and her husband, Carl, and Nancy E. Seltzer, all of Benton. Also surviving are her 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Alice Kuczawa, of Valley View.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol A. Chapin, on May 6, 2012; and by a son, James W. Gordon, on Dec. 11, 2011.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (State Route 487), with Pastor Walter E. Minto Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Benton Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at McMichael’s.
