Edith Battles Birkhead, 92, Sarasota, died July 4, 2002. She was born Feb. 13, 1910, in Stoutsville, Mo., and came to Sarasota 20 years ago from Washington, D.C. She was a fashion director and coordinator with Woodward-Lothrop in Washington. In the 1950s and 1960s, she was in the Washington Fashion Hall of Fame for the best dressed/hatted woman in Washington. She was a member of the Congressional Country Club in Washington. Survivors include stepdaughters, Patricia B. Bowman of Sarasota and Judith Bourne of Ohio; six stepgrandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild. Services will be in Washington. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Gulf Gate Chapel, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
