Funeral services for Eldredge C. Boyd, 81, of Kokomo, MS will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Salem Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Wicker officiating. Burial will be at Holly Springs Cemetery in Morgantown, MS.
Mr. Boyd passed away at Walthall General Hospital in Tylertown, Mississippi on Sunday, September 1, 2019. He was born September 15, 1937 in Walthall, Mississippi to the late Bessie and Joe Boyd. He is also preceded in death by his daughter Lisa Boyd; three sisters; and two brothers.
Mr. Eldredge was a member of Salem Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, member of the choir, and teacher of the Men's Sunday School Class for more than 15 years. He had a great love for basketball; in doing what he loved he became a member of William Carey College and Southwest Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame for being a great athlete. During his time as a coach and teacher at Salem Attendance Center he received the Outstanding Young Educator of Walthall County by The Jaycees, Coach of the Year by the Midsouth Conference, and Sportsmanship Award from the Southwest Mississippi Officials Association. His baseball team won state runners-up in 1966 and undefeated state class A champions in 1967. Upon leaving Salem he changed profession where he was senior vice president of Union Planters Bank and retired after thirty years. Mr. Eldredge also served as President of the Walthall County School Board until the present time. He served as president of the Walthall County Chamber of Commerce, Walthall Forestry Association, and Commissioner of the Walthall County Babe Ruth Baseball League. In 1994 he became associated with the Mississippi Senior Olympics where he served as chairman and acted as the basketball coordinator for more than fifteen years. He received more than one hundred medals in the Senior Games. He was inducted into the Mississippi Senior Olympics Hall of Fame in 2009. Mr. Boyd was well known and respected in his community and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years Sarah Jo Boyd; two sons Chris (Rebecca) Boyd and Cole Boyd; daughter Linda (Keith) Terrell; two granddaughters Sydney Boyd and McKenzie Boyd; grandson J.C. (Angelina) Boyd; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Visitation will be at Salem Baptist Church on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 10:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Salem Baptist Church, 886 MS-27, Tylertown, MS 39667.
