Norma B. Anstey

Norma B. Anstey passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2019 less than two months from her 96th birthday.

Norma was born in Aberdeen, Washington to Anna and Lee Brassfield on October 15, 1923. She was raised in Shelton, graduating from SHS in 1941. Moving to Olympia in 1942, she graduated from secretarial school and married the love of her life, Marvin Anstey, a young army sergeant from Torrington, Wyoming. Norma was able to move with her husband as the army stationed him in Louisiana and then Kentucky in 1942 and 1943. In 1944, Marvin was shipped out to the pacific theater. Norma returned to Shelton where she lived until her passing.

Norma and Marvin had two sons, Steve and Tim and lived in the Mountain View area for over 70 years. Norma always considered herself a working girl and spent 27 years at ITT/Rayonier, eventually becoming the first woman office manager in company history. She and Marvin retired together in July of 1983. Norma began walking to work in the 1970's and played golf with Marvin and her many friends at Bayshore. During their retirement they often traveled to Arizona during the winter with their golfing friends. Norma enjoyed traveling as well as cruising and when she was younger, learning how to water ski and even climbing Mt. Ellinor in the Olympics. In retirement she often volunteered at the food bank and the hospital auxiliary.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Lee, her sister Blanch, her husband of 69 years, Marvin, and her loving son Tim in 2018. She is survived by her son Steve (Helen), Tim's wife Shawn, three grandchildren, Tim, Jon, and Jeff and four great-grandchildren.

In the final years of her life she received excellent care from the staff at Maple Glen. Her son Tim, until his passing last year, saw to her needs almost daily. Spending much of his precious time with Norma, Shawn took over as caregiver and provided exceptional care and support until Norma's passing.

A family gathering will be arranged at a future date. Please remember Norma by giving to your favorite charity.
