Gerald “Jerry” L. Collett, 71, of Eldon died at 9:46 a.m. August 30, 2019 at Ridgewood Specialty Care in Ottumwa.

He was born July 24, 1948 in Iowa City to Oliver Otto Jr. and Geraldine Hayes Collett. He married Carla Huggins on April 12, 1990.

Jerry lived in the Quad Cities for 20 years and moved back to Ottumwa in 1986. He had worked as a welder at Carter Steel in Oskaloosa, Updorf in Bettendorf, International in Moline, East Moline Metal and North American Bale Lines. He had also worked for Excel as a meat cutter.

Surviving is his spouse, Carla; three sons, Stephen, Tony and Eric Collett; one step-son, Bradley Wilcox; 5 grandchildren, Hanna, Trenton, Guy, Maria and Chase Wilcox; two sisters, Sandy Dunning and Verla Garman; three brothers, Barry, Albert and Cliff Collett.

He was preceded in death by a step-son, Chuck Wilcox Jr and a brother, Ron Collett.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. Cremation will follow the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Davis and Wapello Counties.
