James was the son of Harvey and Mary (Creek) Flowers. He graduated from Topeka High. Following high school he attended Washburn Vocational School where he received his degree in welding. In 2011 he retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber after 37 years with the company as a welder.
During his free time James enjoyed auto racing, fishing, hunting and was involved in martial arts.
He was involved in Shriners and would often give away tickets to the Shriners Circus.
James is survived by his two sons, Brad and James Junior; grandson, James III; siblings, Raymond, Aldred, Michael, John, Sandara, Cheryl and Patricia. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Aaron, Jimmy and Harold and one sister, Mary.
