James Earl Bailey, 73, of Owensville, Mo., departed this life on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at his residence after a long battle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy), a rare degenerative brain disease.

He was born on Oct. 3, 1945, to William Earl and Florence Evelyn Bailey in St. Louis Country.

He was united in marriage to Charlotte Richards on Dec. 29, 1968, in Westboro, Mo.

James had served his country with the United States Army serving in Korea. He was a member of Woollam United Methodist Church. He enjoyed sports, stamp collecting, reading and was a Mizzou football and St. Louis Cardinal fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Evelyn Bailey; daughter, Jana Bailey-Pietrzak; and brother, Daryl Bailey.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte of the home; daughter, Christyn Grant and husband Tony of Boone, N.C.; son-in-law, Rafał Pietrzak of Poland; sister-in-law, Sherrye Bailey of Westland, Mich.; brother-in-law, Craig Richards of Owensville; niece, Sarah; nephew, James; and granddaughter, Katrina Grant.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 9-11 a.m. at Woollam United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Amy Turner and Rev. Jackie Asher officiating. Burial will be on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis with full military honors.

Memorials are requested to Woollam United Methodist Church.
