Mr. Wade Verlon Nettles, Sr., age 82 of Bryceville, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019. Mr. Nettles was born in Coffee County, Georgia to the late Guston Wade and Mintie Rowell Nettles. At age 19 he moved to the westside of Jacksonville and began a forty year career as an ironworker at Ameristeel, then known as Florida Steel. At the time of his retirement he relocated to Bryceville, where he could take full advantage of his love for the outdoors. Mr. Nettles enjoyed going fishing and hunting. He was an exceptional farmer and was especially happy when tending to his cows. He was a member of WoodmenLife (Woodmen of the World) and will lovingly be remembered as a kind man that never met a stranger and a devoted family man. Mr. Nettles is survived by his son: Wade Verlon Nettles Jr. of Bryceville; daughter: Pamela (Ralph) Sotolongo of Jacksonville; grandchildren: Jessica (Ryan) Grab, Natasha (Jared) Rider, PJ Brossette, and James Mull; five great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law: Beth Nettles-Fender of Bessemer, AL. Numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of forty nine years: Joan Nettles; son: Philip Ray Nettles; daughter: Robin Whittle; brother: Billy Nettles; and sisters: Verna Mae Youmans, Aileen Anderson, Geraldine Adams, Christine Wright, Louise Hall, and Eva Ruth Goodin. Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Tuesday, August 27, 2019 in the chapel at Prestwood Funeral Home, Baldwin, Florida with Reverend Bert Hutson officiating. Mr. Nettles’ family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hall Cemetery, Nicholls, GA at 2:00pm, Tuesday, August 27, 2019 with Reverend Charles Brown officiating the graveside committal.
