Joe was a warrant officer (M.P.) during WWII and was assigned to patrol the trains running between Portland Oregon and Spokane Washington, along with Freeman Frederick "Sandy" Sanborn and their Sargent, Robert Moody "Bob" Martin. In 1956 our family visited Joe and his wife Marj A. Close and their kids Ronnie and Doreen at their place in Missoula, Montana. Joe then moved to Concrete Washington where he is now buried. Marj is buried in Livingston Montana, her gravestone reads "Marge A. Close, 1908-1987".
