Obituary

Shirley Eileen (Verdieck) Cook Masters, 86 of Kansas City, Kansas passed away on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm, and Celebration of Life will be at 7 pm, on Tuesday, August 20, at the Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas.


Shirley was born on April 21, 1933 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She was raised in Glenwood Springs through High School, upon her graduation she moved to Topeka, Kansas with her first husband Roy Cook. They moved to Kansas City, Kansas where they had four sons. Roy died in 1969. In 1972 she married George Masters, who preceded her in death in 2005.


She started working in 1970 at Ted Wilkerson Construction Company as a bookkeeper/office manager until retirement in 1995. After her retirement Shirley enjoyed watching her grandkids in athletics, gardening, feeding her birds, watching KU football and basketball, playing solitaire, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs. Shirley was an avid reader and active member of the Wyandotte United Methodist Church.


She was preceded in death by her parents John Claus Verdieck and Astrid Erikson.


She is survived by her sister Donna Porter; her four sons; Rory Cook, and wife Delores, grandson Damon; Shawn Cook, fiancé Cheryl, granddaughter Tiffany, great-grandsons Colten and Hunter, grandson Cody; Logan Cook, his wife Karen, granddaughters Shelby and Rheana, grandson Shaeffer; Kurt Cook, his wife Kim, grandsons Chase and Collin; four stepchildren, Rex Masters, Sharyn Graham, Robert Masters, and Richard Masters; and many nieces and nephews.


In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Wyandotte United Methodist Church.
