Abraham Franklin “Abe” Coury, 82, of Indiana, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Bethany Place Residential Care facility in Indiana where he had resided for the past several years.

Born in Homer City, April 12, 1937, he was a son of the late George Albert Coury, Sr. and Louise Alcott (Thomas) Coury. Abe was the husband of the former Priscilla Bracken, whom he married June 21, 1958. Together they raised three daughters.

Abe was a graduate of the former Laura Lamar High School in Homer City. He served his country as a Signalman in the U.S. Navy during the mid 1950’s. His final duty assignment was aboard the U.S.S. Raymond.

Following his return home from the Navy, Abe embarked on a 35 year career with PennDot where he was a Civil Engineer Technician, retiring in 1993.

Abe was quite the fisherman. Whenever he got the chance he would cast his line into many local streams and waterways. He especially liked to fish in Potter County. Abe also liked to tie his own fishing flies.

Abe attended church services at Trinity United Methodist Church in Indiana. He was a member of the American Legion Post 141 of Indiana; The Allied Club; Elks Lodge #931 of Indiana and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge # 174 of Indiana.

In addition to his wife, Priscilla, Abe is survived by his daughters: Rebecca Edwards (Galen), Hillsdale; Deborah Buterbaugh (Donald), Indiana and Paula Zolocsik (Paul), Indiana. His nine surviving grandchildren are: Wayne, Greg and Stephanie Buterbaugh; Amanda Cummins(Matthew); Jason Edwards(Ashley); Sarah Edwards; Priscilla Boring(Matthew); Steven Zolocsik and Thomas Zolocsik. He is also survived by eleven great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Abe was preceded in death by his brother, George Coury.

In accordance to his wishes, Abe’s visitation and funeral service will be held privately by the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.
