Commemorative Biography of Central Pennsylvania:
B.M. Field, who for more than a third of a century has been a most active and enterprising businessman of Lock Haven and during that period an extensive coal dealer, is a native of New Jersey, born in June 1823. John & Margaret (Paulson) Field, his parents were natives of New Jersey. John came to Pennsylvania and located in Lycoming county. He was by occupation a contractor & builder of internal improvements and engaged in work on a number of railroads and canals. he was a man of considerable energy & push and was quiet and made no display. Field Station and post office were named for hos family. Burrows in his boyhood had the advantages of the Williamsport schools. After leaving school he engaged in railroading for a time and then was a foreman and contractor for many years. He built the railroad from Sunbury to Erie. In 1867 he began dealing in coal. He has been an enterprising & progressive citizen. He was one of the organizers of the State Bank of Lock Haven which was a prosperous organization for many years but closed in 1893.He was instrumental in forming the Lock Haven Trust Company and is a stockholder there. He is not a member of any church but is liberal to all. He is a Democrat and is opposed to monopolies. He was one of the organizers of the Lock Haven Power & Steam Company. He is unmarried but has boarded with "Uncle" Peter Meitzler, a genial and accommodating landlord of Lock Haven.
