Ryan Joseph Scalzo, age 37, died in Montgomery, Texas on August 9, 2019 after a courageous four year-long battle with cancer. Born November 9, 1981, he was the son of Angela Loehr Scalzo (Steve Schaper) of Montgomery, Texas and Joseph Scalzo (Jean LeBlanc) of Bluffton, South Carolina.

As an alumna of Vincennes University, Ryan worked as an electrical technician at a number of companies and traveled to Burkina Faso in Africa, helping the government install proper electricity for food production factories. An avid sports fan, Ryan followed the Chicago Blackhawks and Cubs. Ryan enjoyed playing golf, building computers, playing video games and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Marlin Loehr and Eileen “Jackie” Scalzo, and uncles Stan Lee and Lanny Taylor.

He is survived by his grandparents Margie Loehr and Joseph Scalzo, sister Mindy (James) Grupe, niece Quinn Angela Grupe, great-aunt and uncle Phyllis and Jack Koerner, aunts Cynthia Lee, Jennifer Taylor, Cheryl (Michael) Cheek and Donna (Wayne) Haskins, uncle Terry (Becky) Scalzo, step-sisters Jennifer (Marc Anderson) Underwood and Alyssa (Alexander) DeWitt, and cousins Scott Lee, Valerie (Byron Christie) Poe-Christie, Melanie (Jason) Wright, Holly (Steve) Heichelbech, Megan Hicks, Christian MacKean, Erin Garrett, Corey Haskins, Luke Scalzo, Tanner Scalzo, and other family and friends.

Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Tuesday August 20, 2019, at the Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City. Burial will follow in the Lynnville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Tuesday at the Corn-Colvin Funeral Home.
