A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and a Tau Beta Pi graduate of General Motors Institute, began his career with the AC Spark Plug Division of General Motors Corporation in 1939. After serving in various executive positions over 42 years, he retired from the position of Director of Production Engineering (service and planning). A member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, Society of Automotive Engineers, past member of Flint Golf Club and Flint Rotary Club. A long time supporter of the Big Brothers of Greater Flint, Mr. Dunkle was elected an Honorary Big Brother in 1984. He believed that the less fortunate should be given an opportunity for higher education as was provided for him by one who believed in him. Mr. Dunkle furthered his education in the field of "Operations Research" at Johns Hopkins University and in the field of "Industrial Applications of Radio Isotopes" at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). In 1977 Mr. Dunkle was listed in "Who's Who in the Automotive Industry" by Wards Automotive Publication. That same year, he presented his paper "Economic Justification of Mechanization" (ASME57A215) in New York to the International Convention of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
