Ronald Lee (Ronny) Adams, 68, of Diana died August 10, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents, James (Chubby) and Melba Stracener Adams and brother Danny Adams.
Ronny was born in Longview, TX on February 7, 1951. He was a 1970 graduate of Longview High School. He was a Class A Machinist at C. Wright Machine.
Ronny began racing stock cars at the age of 17 in 1968. He raced for more than 51 years. His racing career took him across the United States as well as Australia. He had 589 career wins including 14 track championships at Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, La. He was a nine time Louisiana State Champion. He was the fourth winningest driver in the Southern United Professional tour with 38 victories. Major victories include The Spooky 50 in Chatham, La., the Jambalaya 100 at Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, Ms., and the Armadillo Nationals at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, TX. and a 1992 Australian National Grand Prix Champion where he remains the only American to have won that event.
He is survived by daughter, Wilhelmina Hartsell and husband Ryan of Dallas, TX; daughter Amber Allen and husband Will of Canton, TX; and daughter Ann Dykes and husband Jeff of Shreveport, La. His brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Robin Adams of Longview, TX; his sister, Paula (Cissy) Abney of Richmond, Va; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Kathleen Adams of Longview, TX and Alice Durand of Shreveport, La; grandchildren Jessa Allen, Jacie Arnold, Justice Arnold and Kendall Dykes. A number of nieces, nephews, and many close friends.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, August 13, from 5-7 pm at Welch Funeral Home in Longview, TX. Services are scheduled at 1:15 pm on Wednesday, August 14, at the Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX.
