The following is a transcript of Shadrach N. Winkler Jr.'s Will
State of Georgia
Chatham County
I, Shadrach N. Winkler of said State and County do make this as my last Will and Testament, revoking all others heretofore made.
Item First: I desire that a portion of the income derived from my estate shall be appropriated to the building of a vault in the Laurel Grove Cemetery which when finished, I do most sincerely invoke my Sisters and Brothers, to have the remains of my and our parents removed from their present location and placed within it.
Item Second: My Negroes, I desire So long as it is practical and they behave themselves Shall be kept together- My servant John, I desire, in case the recipient of my bounty dies without a will, when said John reaches the age of twenty-one, to be sent to a free state and there liberated.
Item Third: I devise and bequeath my entire estate, both real and personal, in full, to my dearly beloved brother, Joseph Alexander Winkler, of said State and County.
I witness whereof, I, the said Shadrach N. Winkler have to This my Will, set my hand and seal this Sixth day of April in the year of Our Lord, Eighteen Hundred and Fifty Eight.
