Adele Gerhard Mutchler

11/7/1924 - 5/8/2017

Adele Louise Gerhard Mutchler passed from this life on May 8, 2017 in Houston, Harris County Texas.

Adele was born at her grandparents home, Herman and Marie Gerhard, on the Carancahua River, in Jackson County on November 7, 1924 to Paul John and Anna Eloge Gerhard.

She was their third daughter. Adele was raised in the Duetschburg Community in Jackson County with her 5 sisters and one brother. Adele attended the one room Deutschburg Community School and later Palacios High School. After graduating high school Adele attended Texas Women's College in Denton for a semester or so. During World War II Adele worked at US Army Camp Hulen near Palacios and later at US Army Air Corp Base, Foster Field, near Victoria.

After the war Adele moved to Austin, Texas and worked for the Texas Employment Commission. Adele always remembered her time in Austin with fondness and always said if she had her druthers she would move back to Austin. During 1947 Adele met John V. Mutchler and they were married at her parents' home in Deutschburg on October 25, 1947. Adele and John started their family with the birth of Allen in 1948 and a subsequent move to Lafayette, LA where Ralph was born in 1950. Adele and John moved to Fort Worth where Gary, 1953, Gordon 1954, and Glenn 1956 were born.

Adele and family then moved to Southern California in 1962, returning to Texas in 1965 when she and her family settled in Alvin, TX. Adele was active in her children's lives and activities. Adele supported John's career and was active in the Lutheran Church, editing the church newsletter and sponsoring the youth group. After the last son, Glenn, was in high school Adele followed her own path and started a 30 year career with several companies in sales, executive secretary, and finally as office manager and bookkeeper.

Adele, during her professional career, was a member of and active in the Mimosa Chapter of the American Business Women's Association where she received an award for Business Woman of the Year from the Chapter. Adele lost her son Gordon in 1985 and her husband John in 1994. A few years later she developed a relationship with an old schoolmate from her high school years, Phil Wilson. Adele and Phil married in 1998 in Bay City, TX.

Adele loved square dancing, big band music from the 1940's, playing 42, large family and friend get togethers and traveling with husbands John and Phil in their RV's. Probably second to her sons she loved to talk about being raised on the farm in Deutschburg, her family, working in the hay field with her father and trips from Deutschburg to Chicago in 1931 and 1945 to visit Gerhard relatives.

Adele was preceded in death by her parents; husbands John V. Mutchler and Phil Wilson; son Gordon Mutchler; sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Oswald Kubecka, Emma and Jim Williams, Bertha and Frank Stewart, and Anna and Norvel Sells.
