Betty was born in Bridgwater, Somerset, England. She married Herbert Gould. They had twin boys named Martin and Mervin. Betty became pregnant again but miscarried do to having accidentally ingested something toxic. The hospital attempted to save the unborn baby although it was too early in the pregnancy for the baby to survive. As a result, Betty bled to death.
